Am I the only one who threatens their hens/pullets with freezer camp for not laying eggs? :lau
Two have been molting so they have an excuse, plus it is their slow down time. The Brahma is starting to come out of her slow down time, she laid up to middle of June. Don't expect many from the 3 that will be 4 in the spring.
The 2 Golden Comets (24 weeks) are a different story. One started laying Oct 11th. She has been doing 5-6 eggs a week. When she started to squat, 2 days later she laid her first egg. The other hasn't laid her 1st egg yet. She has always been 2-3 weeks behind the other one. Tell her every morning she is not too young for freezer camp if she doesn't get busy. :gigShe has been squatting for a week, making nests, going into the nesting boxes. Checked her for egg binding, no egg felt. Guess she just isn't quite ready to lay yet.
They get layer feed (until this bag is gone, then going to all flock feed), side of both oyster shell & grit. 2 to 3 times a week they get 2 Tablespoons of mealworms and 2 Tablespoons cracked corn/scratch mixture per chicken before they roost.

Mom says I'm not too young for freezer camp

well... I sure don't.... I have 3 buff orps, 3 barred rocks, 1 EE, 1 silkie, and one polish. (8 pullets, 1 hen(the polish), and they are all well developed, but I don't complain about 3 eggs a day... (we have to buy eggs from the neighbors) hopefully not for long! bur I would never send any of my chickens to the freezer... they are my BFF's!

Hi, I'm dealing with a strange sickness in my hens. Had 5, now 4, vet thinks it's Mericks' induced cancer. I got them all as chicks (bought from local farm store and probably weren't vaccinated) and they've been great layers until now, all 2 years old. Four now and getting 2 eggs a day. I lost my Buff a few weeks ago, now vet says 1 of my Bared Rocks will die of cancer, I'm nursing her along for now. Any ideas on holistic anything I can do to give others immunity? Am I going to lose whole flock? 3 healthy ones left. Please help!

I'm sorry that this is happening to your hens. Please make a thread in the emergencies/diseases/injuries/cures forum.

Glad to know I'm not the only one. Threatened the barred rock this summer, next day she laid. :gigDH laughs every time he hears me say it, and when I tell them No Eggs, No NumNums (mealworms, scratch/cracked corn).
