We are new to raising chickens & we purchased 2 Rhode Island Reds and 2 Ameraucanas from a local feed store. How can I tell the gender or is it too early? I am specifically curious about the one pictured here. She (hopefully) is so calm and timid, that we have started calling her Sweetie. They are all a little over 3 weeks old. Let me know if anyone has any tips or guesses!

Sweetie is the speckled one in the middle.

Too young to tell for sure, but isn't screaming cockerel right now. Did you get straight run, and are you sure they aren't EE but ameraucanas? Post pictures again when the chicks are about 5-6 weeks for better answers. [IMG]

No, not straight run. I am also wondering about it being and Easter egger now that you've mentioned it...any pics I find of EE chicks look very similar to her patterns and coloring! At the store they called them Ameraucanas, but who knows bc they get a large shipment of chicks in from hatcheries and the breeds are always varied as to what they get. Just hoping its a hen as its my favorite one!

The Ameraucana are Easter Eggers. And they all look like pullets for now.

    Both Easter Eggers are female.
