Ameraucana hen or roo?

    I have a black ameraucana (i think) hen, she(?) is black with feather fluff under her chin but in all the pics I see of hens the hens have feather fluff only around the ears and the roos with fluff under their chins. can my sweet, non-egg, laying 5 month, old comb-less, hen be a he?

    Yes without a picture would be difficult to say.

    A picture would help. If it is a purebred Ameracauna just could take some more time. Look for long neck feathers or tail that lifts and droops at that age.

    So just because your bird has a beard doesn't mean it is a male. But if you could post pictures we could tell you for sure. [​IMG]

    may be seeing as it's so dark she might not be laying?

    She looks just like my girls. Ameraucanas can be slow to lay. 5 months is right around when mine start ....
