    Hey guys.
it snowed an awful lot up here in NY.
It's the chickies first winter and i have been pretty worried about them.
we have a heat lamp set up in the roost, so they dont freeze their butts off at night.
but one of my ameraucanas lost her pretty floof around her beak:( its all naked skin now.
    it almost happened over night
    what could this be?
my other chicken started losing feather on the back of her head a while ago, but that was from the overexcited rooster.
    could she be moulting?
or could it be something serious..

My flock of EE's have the same muff and beard missing. Mine are definitely moulting...I picked up one and the poor thing was FULL of pin feathers. They look pretty sad.
I did put a bag of sand in one corner of the coop so they can dust bathe...figure it might help with the moulting. They are so happy in that corner...rolling all around! [IMG]

My flock will be a year old in May.
  3. I had a couple of americaunas doing that and they definitely were in a molt. I ended up moving them to a warm part of my barn and it forced the molt and they are laying again.
