Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I dunno. From what I've seen on the ABC Forum, there isn't any difference between the Lav from the Blacks and the Lav from a Wheaten. If that's the case, what's the point?

I'd encourage you to keep working on the BW's. They still need lots of work and there are few dedicated breeders to the variety.

God Bless,

There is a bunch of differences.

Those of you looking for a project please don't jump into a project if you don't understand the genetics. There is no glory or true monetary gain in flooding the market with false claims and easter eggers.

Very nice chickenstalker. Just so all knows I have 2 of chickenstalkers project birds that survived my horrible year last year. Storm blew in and lost all my lav and LW project. These are almost old enough to start over with again chickenstalker so will be back in there soon I hope. I will pm you pics soon. They dont have the yellowing this one does though. He is gorgeous.

I would love to see them. They may be lavender split wheaten. Meaning they are only are carrying 1 wheaten gene instead of 2. Lavender wheatens have to carry not only 2 lav genes but 2 wheaten genes....which means they are 4 times as difficult to work with but well worth it.

I've seen something like that before on the ABC Forum but I thought I had read where the golden hackle was something to get rid of. I probably read wrong.

Either way, I'm not enthralled with the bird. To each his own but it just doesn't do anything for me. As for one needing to understand genetics before jumping into a project, I'd have to disagree with that statement. My guess is that the majority of Old Timers, who developed most of the breeds and varieties, didn't understand genetics.

And if one is only in the fancy for glory or monetary gain, I think one is in it for the wrong reasons - or at least they're missing out on the real joy of the fancy. JMO.

God Bless,

God Bless,

Lavender dilutes colors. The color on him isn't gold it's more of a cream or champagne. He's got everything a wheaten has but just diluted. Yes, true beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I just got a beautiful Ameraucana this morning. I don't know enough about her yet to have much to say, simply that she is beautiful.
