wait! am I missing something? You can sex blue Am's as chicks? I didnt think you could sex them as young young-chicks??

if i post pictures of my blue ameraucanas could you tell
if they are hens or roosters at 2 weeks old
i got some this week but dont know if there
roosters or hens

Probably NOT, unless you can take spectacularly close pics of thier combs. I've often heard that at that age if you can see 3 rows of bumps in the peacomb then you have a boy (per Speckledhen I think). I have found this to be true most of the time except in lavenders.

please give an update if you would on how the muffs look when they feather out, not to scare you but any chicks i have had with little or no muffs at that age ended up with really poor muffs if any at all. I am not an expert yet though thats why i am asking for update please. Thanks and be forewarned Ameraucana's are very addictive. LF black, Silver and Bantam Lavander not enough lol got 2 dozen LF Blue eggs coming from Wayne in couple weeks just what i need another color lol

Did you hatch them or were they shipped? You do know how blue works, right?

We've been stiffed recently by breeders that had to wait because of weather to ship out chicks, and when they finally did arrive it was obvious they had been sexed.

That is soooooooooooo unfair. I wish I knew who it is ONLY so I would NEVER order from them........... I usually order just hatching eggs anyway except for Paul Smith who only ships chicks & he came highly recommended. It seems to me a breeder would want the very best reputation they could have to run a business & expect to be successful. I don't know the best known breeders so try to defer to a friend's recommendations that has had alot more experience than I. What pleasure couls someone get out of cheating another person???

Yeah- well - you live and learn! Somebody had a chick auction for marans and they were going to be shipped at 3 weeks of age "straight run". Well, at that age they aren't really straight run are they? If you RAISE marans- or any other single combed breed- you pretty much know what they are at 3 weeks. There's always a few exceptions, but still.

On a good note- Crystalcreek's lavs are hatching in my bator, along with at least one of Ramey's buffs. Nothing from his wheatens yet. Hoping I wake up to a whole lot of chicks.

hi all, I have a question for the experts here, can I breed a splash rooster to a wheaten hen and come up with blue wheatens on the first hatch?
