the crazy khaki buff behind the silkie???!!! That's not from ours! We don't have buffs.

Oh no- the buff is from Wayne's eggs.

Some of the wheatens are yours.

So, so far people's khaki and dun colored "Buff" chicks are all feathering out the same as a solid buff color, yes?

Yes- even the different leg colors seem to all "catch up" and be the same eventually. You don't think this could be sex-linked or anything? That would be so cool if it was!

No, I think it is merely us actually seeing the dun in Buffs. The lighter ones are khaki, the ones that look like normal Buffs are buff. Then there's some that come out with black dots or partridgey looks - Those are black. Remember, dun works like BBS.

That's great, thank you!

I've been puzzling over what would produce him. Unfortunately all the females were killed by a fox where he came from. There was only him and another male with much less fluff than he has left. Now he poses an interesting dilemma, I had been trying to decide between BBS or lav because I know mixing the two causes headaches later.

I'll have a play with the calculator but I think my best bet would be to use him to make EE's as planed and invest in good quality birds down the track. A few pretty hens as company for him would be nice but I wouldn't want to sell 'pure' birds that will pop up surprises later.

I love my first EE so much, she is gorgeous. The white/ tan coloring. She is the sweetest chicken I have so far, flying up to the run perch for me to pick her up and love her. She will sit in my lap for hours getting pet.

So, this year, I had my silkie hatch an Ameraucana (EE) egg. Only one hatched, and after seeing photos, I was hoping for a blackish coloring, with lots of earmuff and beard, just like Sophie, only different color. Well, I got exactly what I wished for. And after posting several threads on the What Gender is This topic, I introdue you to FIZZGIG, my perfect little EE pullet that was hatched thru much strife!

She is the dark one, of course. The other is another EE pullet that I got to keep her company, but looks NOTHING like what I like. Oh well.
