I purchased 5 american buff goslings last weekend for my mom for mother's day. They are 4 weeks old and just starting to get feathers. We were extremely displeased upon getting them. The guy didn't have ANY water for them and were outside without a heat light or shelter from the wind. Note I'm in Wisconsin and it's only in the mid 60's right now, definitely not warm enough yet for these little guys. After we picked them up we heard gurgling like sounds coming from one of the babies. After getting them home in a warm, clean dry place we sat down and observed them for awhile. We noticed 3 out of 5 of them were making this gurgling sound. We can feel it deep in their chests as well and they'll shake their head and have a yellow gunk come out.

Assuming it was some kind of respiratory infection we picked up duramycin-10. We have been giving half the normal dosage because it was recommended that because geese drink twice the water as chickens or other poultry.

They have been active, eating and drinking well, it just really bothers us that they have not been getting better and it has been almost a week since we started giving them medication.

We have contacted all of our local and non-local vets and no one around here treats geese (really??).

If anyone has any information or input and could help us we would GREATLY appreciate it!!

Baytril injection or Tylan are both good for respiratory infections.

Where do you get these antibiotics? Are they prescription only? I don't like using antibiotics unless they are really necessary, but it would be nice to have them on hand in case they are needed.
