I obviously know that hatcheries almost always sell Easter Eggers that are labeled as Ameraucanas. However, I've noticed that a lot of times they're spelled as Americanas. Why is that? Google thinks that's what I meant when I search for Ameraucanas.

It's often misspelled I'm not sure why it just is and they also often lump araucanas in there with them too. I don't know where you'd find true purebreds if these they're always just EEs

Hatcheries purposefully misspell Ameraucana, Americauna. They are basically acknowledging that their birds hardly resemble pure Ameraucana, and are trying to trick uneducated/misinformed people into thinking they are buying the real thing. They also charge slightly more for these 'Easter Eggers' than they charge for other common breeds like Orpingtons, Rocks, and Sexlinks. My 'Americauna' where a dollar more than my Australorps and Barred Rocks. Still not anywhere close to costing as much as a pure Ameraucana, but a bit dishonest if you ask me.

Interesting that makes sense though... I liked that one of the hatcheries listed them as Easter eggers since that's what they are. I didn't notice if they cost more or not maybe slightly. Some of the "rare" breeds cost more even if they're pretty common to me

    Cashing in on demand.
Even Ameracaunas are something of a mish-mash breed.
