I purchased an equal mix of Amerucana and Rhode Island Reds in April 2022. Based on the number and color of eggs, I determined that they were all laying by sometime around October 2022. I have only received brown and green eggs. I was a bit disappointed because I really wanted at least one of the girls to lay blue ones. Yesterday I went out to gather eggs and found this...

The picture doesn't quite do the color difference justice between the blue one and the green one. I was both very happy and a bit confused. I'm less than a year into chicken ownership. Is 10ish months an unusually large amount of time to start laying?

It's not unusually long, I just had a pullet start laying at a year. Some just mature later than others. Congratulations on your blue egg!

Chances are a green layer popped one out before the spray booth got going.
(green eggs have blue shells with a brown coating)
