Ancona Roos or pullets?

Of cause she can. But they could live for 5 or 7 years. And what should she do when they get old and weak? And perhaps sick? And what should she do when there is only 1 or 2 left?

And what about when they are finally gone, should she buy all pullets/hens and let someone else kill the cockerels?

If you don't like chickens being killed, I think the best way is to buy some where you know the sex, and buy from someone where you know, that cockerels are being raised and eaten - and not killed day one, like they do on hatcheries.

But all in all I think chicken-keeping is for people who kill and eat chickens. It just works better that way. Even for the chickens.
