Hi,
we are puting the finishing touches on our first coop/run.
We were planning to skirt the hardware cloth around the bottom and the cover it with 18 inch pavers for a finished look. Well as I was buying the pavers I was wondering if by laying these side by side around the perimeter of coop/run we could just eliminate skirting the hardware cloth? Wouldn't it do the same thing as the cloth...prevent predators from digging?
Any thoughts?

Oh absolutely, as long as they are BIG BIG pavers like that and very tightly set. That's mostly what I use, actually. I do have a short hardwarecloth skirt going under them in some places where the lumpiness of the ground prevents the pavers from fitting very tight to the base of the run fence, but on flat ground that wouldn't be an issue.

Good luck, have fun,

Pat

It's a good idea to have a tiny apron, so you've got a seal between the fence and the ground. It only needs to be long enough to be firmly anchored by the pavers.
