Hello all
I am the proud brand new owner of four Australorp chicks hatched one week before Easter. I've been planning to get chickens for quite a while, so Easter weekend seemed to be the perfect time to go collect some. I've never owned chickens in the past, though I have owned two ducks many years ago. I came across BYC every time I searched for an answer, everything I've wanted to know has been covered in one spot. I joined to get help with one of my chicks and know I can trust the varied advice I will receive. I hope to contribute as much as I can, though I'm far from having much to offer.

I live in Perth, Australia, and am owned by one child and one dog, with the help of my bewildered yet loving partner.

Welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new chicks! You are going to love your Australorps. They are very docile, friendly, and great layers as well. Quite hardy too. My Aussies are huge on lap sitting. I can't sit anywhere without a chicken on my lap!

Have you stopped by our learning center here on BYC yet? Lots of good reads on all the aspects of keeping poultry...

There are also lots of members from Australia here on BYC so you might want to join in on the chat here....

So glad you could join our community! Enjoy your new babies and welcome to our flock!
