We’re considering hatching out some of our eggs and want to try and figure out what our rooster actually is before we start choosing what eggs to hatch out. The problem is we got him from an acquaintance who we no longer have contact with and had no idea who his mom could be. His dad is a Silver Laced Wyandotte, and the only possible moms we know are a buff Orpington, and Easter egger. obviously there’s a lot more but those are the only breeds we knew she had. I’m not so great at chicken identification so any input would be greatly appreciated!

SLW crossed with buff Orpington looks right to me, other than comb type. Rose combs are generally dominant but not in this case. Looks too large to be part Easter egger to me.

Thank you so much! That was my initial thought but the comb was throwing me off. But we dug up his old owners Facebook and actually found a photo of his dad who doesn’t even have a rose comb so he might not even be a pure Wyandotte lol not sure if they can have singles and still be pure. Either way that’d explain the fact that he has a single. Thanks again for the help!

Occasionally Wyandottes have single combs due to genetics even though the standard calls for rose combs. Especially Wyandottes from certain hatcheries.
