Storey's Illustrated Guide To Poultry Breeds by Carol Ekarius is a VERY good book stuffed full of chickens and other birds. It has lots of pics of the breed your looking at and has a good description and history of ________ breed.

Feathersite is a good starting place. There are links for more specific websites and breeders for most breeds. Related books are often listed, too.
