Any ideas for some cool mixes please

    My friend is giving me her little roo, he's a black sex link and I wanted to get him some hens his age. What hens would make pretty mixes with him as the dad?
    If you have any suggestions and even better pictures for me to check out!

    Why not experiment with genetics? Go pick out hens you think are cute and cross them maybe?

    He will only pass his barring to half his chicks, and his father's red color will surface in some chicks if bred to red hens.
    over red hens he could produce a few barred red. It might be fun to breed to a something like a welsumer or a brown leghorn.
    A lot of the chicks would be black or black barred but half should be a wild variety of colors and patterns.

    As stated above, half the chicks will have some degree of barring, half will be solid. This makes for a nice, colorful flock [​IMG]. I really like the reddest hen's coloring, the calico look is very striking IMO.
