My husband found this chick wandering in a field near our house. I don't know the age- pretty young, maybe 4 weeks. Any ideas what breed??? Thanks. Erin

I'm sure it was someone's free-range chicken very lost. Maybe chased. She's quick.

That is a big tail for a chicken with no comb. Could the comb have been docked? That is done with game birds for exhibition. I don't know if they do that to cockfighters. Could be a pullet of one of the long tail breeds, but probably a bantam game (Old or Modern).

The comb doesn't look like it has been messed with. Just small. Can't really see it in pics but its there.

Here are a few pics that show its color and size a little better. She doesn't like to sit still to pose.

Could be some sort of Old English Game bantam, black red or some colour of that type. More higher quality OEGB lines have such nice tails on them too.

I'll have to look back at my old pics. I have a golden phoenix hen.

Definitely not a brown leghorn. I have them. Their tails aren't as large at that young and age, and they have yellow legs. Plus, my girls had good sized combs by that age. And white earlobes.

    Good luck - she's a cutie!
