    Hi there..

thrush is a yeast infection. Is mom breast feeding? Doctors will usually prescribe nystatin or diflucan (anti-fungals) for both mom and baby, they will kill off the yeast. However, yeast infections are caused by an overgrowth of yeast usually due to an imbalance of the natural "good" bacteria in the body. If natural bacteria (probiotics) are low (often caused by taking antibiotics or steroids) then yeast will grow.

The best thing to do is go to a health food store or walgreens/cvs and pick up some probiotics. Get them in capsules so you can open them up and spread them in the babies mouth before eating. If mom is breastfeeding, she should be taking the probiotics too. This will restore balance to the bodies natural flora and the yeast will be kept in control by the re-colonization of the good bacteria the body is missing.

Probiotics are completely safe and natural - as a matter of a fact, yogurt is recommended as a yeast treatment because of the large quantity of probiotics in them.

Hope this helps, feel free to ask more questions or google probiotics for yeast.

I would call the pediatrician and have him call something in. It doesn't matter that it is a holiday. That's why they became pediatricians. They know kids need a doc at any given moment.

Most drug stores are open today. If you live a small town, call the drug stores first just to make sure they are open for when the doc calls in the prescription.

I would also have your DD/DDIL treated too if she is nursing. They will just pass it back and forth to eachother.

    Sorry I couldn't help more.

i agree, call the Dr office or emergency number, they should have someone on call. If you cant get a hold of someone go to the ER. It must be uncomfortable and I wouldnt want to wait till tomorrow.

You have to ask the pharmacist for the gentine violet now. You don't need a prescription but you do have to sign for it.

Talk to a pharmacist. they can give you suggestions for OTC stuff that will at least be helpful until the doc can persrcribe. Does your local hospital have a nurse call in line? They can give suggestions too.

drug stores like walgreens and CVS will most likely carry "Culturelle", here is what it looks like and some info.

We have been using probiotics in my house for a few years, no yeast infections and eczema anymore!

Gentian Violet is good, and probiotics too. Also, grape fruit seed extract helps yeast issues and thrush for the mouth and diaper area. Here is a good link with instructions on how to use it. http://www.drjaygordon.com/development/bf/thrush.asp They sell GSE at health food stores, like Whole Foods. It's also on amazon.com, which won't help you ASAP but just for future reference...GSE is a great thing to keep on hand!
