I was going to either order some pullets online or our local feed store. I just wanted to get some ideas about how to go about building a homemade brooder for maybe about 6 chicks. Thanks.[IMG]

I have some pictures and explanation of my brooder set up on my blog at:

Go to the posts on Feb 8th, 9th, 10th.

I used a cardboard box with a 250 watt red heat bulb in a brooder lamp... you're supposed to have about 1/2 square foot per baby in the beginning.

After I put yesterday hatch in tonight, I will have 18 total chicks in it. I will seperate the 3 week olds from the newbies with the partition. So far it's worked great.

Just curious...where does everyone store the brooders since they are pretty big.

I would think a plastic bin with an extra oven grate would be fine [IMG]
