I am going to purchase some chicks next from our local Rural King. Has anyone ever purchased from there? Last year my husband bought some chicks for the kids at the local Farm and Home (Aracaunas and Orpingtons) They were fine. Any input would be appreciated.

Our local Rural King purchases their chicks from Cackle Hatchery and 2 years ago they special ordered the chicks I wanted for less than I could have placed the order myself with Cackle. The chicks were superior to some we've ordered directly from a hatchery. Beware however that when their chicks are really cheap, you run a good chance that the hatchery made a special offer to Rural King to "dump" their cockerels and birds that didn't sell. They are healthy birds, but you get what you get.

Thanks to everyone for their replies! I purchased 25 chicks from there last week. All pullets(I hope!) I got 15 SL Wyandottes, 8 Americaunas, and 2 Barred Rocks. The minimum was 25. This week they received ducks, bantams, and mixed heavy breeds. It was hard not to go back and buy more!. They do come from Cackle hatchery. Sll are doing well so far. Wish me luck! Rooptydoo if your out there, drop me a line. I kept getting the emails I sent you returned due to an error. I wanted to let you know that you had to order the Wellies(straight run only). They were not going to have them at Rural King. If I hear of any I will let you know.
