Just wondering what everyone does for the winter for their chickens. My chicks are free range during the day and I have converted a horse stall into a chicken coop behind my house. They are only 6 months old so I nor they have encountered a winter yet. Their coop is surrounded by plywood up to 4 feet on three sides, then chicken wire above that for about four feet, 8 ft chicken wire for the fourth panel, then a tin roof. I'm thinking I may need to put up something on that fourth wall to protect them from the cold at night. Any suggestions?

Hi and :welcome from Ohio . So glad to have you aboard. As long as you are able to close up any drafts, they should be fine. I use a deep shavings on the floor as well. :thumbsup

! Happy you joined us! I agree with other posters - eliminate drafts and you should be fine, particularly in Louisiana where it doesn't get too brutally cold. Good luck to you!
