My black pied hen is making a nest and currently has 11 eggs. SHe usually hatches between 20 and 23 for me though. Problem is I dont know if they are fertile or not. I did catch one of my 6 month old drakes "attempting" to mount her while i was feeding today.

So - with the average 40 degree weather, any luck on fertility?

Hi! My young Muscovy girls started laying and I started setting eggs. Last weeks' eggs were not so good --- the only 3 fertile ones made it to to Day 35 and perished.
I have 2 Muscovy eggs in the hatcher now on Day 34 --- they were looking great when I moved them to hatcher. The Ancona eggs (Day 27) are almost all pipped, and I see some pips in the chicken eggs (Day 20), but nothing from the Muscovy eggs yet.

i wish i had hatching ones so i could try out my incubator i got for christmas

I just put the 25(black pied) I bought in the incubator. My girls wanted to "play" with them but not sit on them... just cover them up to mess with me, the brats.

One of my girls started going broody last week but I keep taking the eggs and messing up the nests. WAY to cold here (real temp of -5.1 this morning) for them to be brooding. All they have to do is get off the nest for a few minutes and those eggs begin freezing up fast. Thaw this weekend with warmer temps in the forcast next week. Sooooo..... I will let them start building a clutch in the next week or two. COME ON SPRING!!!!!!

Muscovies cover their eggs to protect them and keep them insulated from temperature variations.

So far this year, I have collected about 79 eggs. I have tooooooo many muscovy ducks right now, so I have been collecting some of the eggs. I don't want them to hatch too many. I currently have an order for 6 dozen hatching eggs. One of my muscovy girls is setting on about 20 eggs. I have 2 other girls who have layed eggs. One nest has 6 eggs and the other nest has 3 eggs. I am collecting everything else that they are laying and that is not marked. The others are laying eggs but I am collecting them. I am overloaded with muscvoys.

I have never shipped any eggs before, so I wouldn't know where to start as far as wrapping and shipping. They would probably all be cracked when you received them because I would have no idea what I was doing.
