We just noticed it today. I have no idea what's going with her. She has 2 other females in the cage with her and 1 male. None of them are aggressive towards each other.

It's her back. She's a coturnix and she's a few months over a year old.

She is probably being over mated. You need more females for this male. They are very sexual and obviously, she is the only one he is mating. This could kill her, so you need to get him out of there for awhile so she can heal. Then maybe get more hens. When you do get more birds, keep them together but separated by wire for about 3 weeks so they get to know each other behind wire. If you just throw them in, there can be a lot of blood shed or even death.

You can use a light coat of blu-kote on her back so the other hens don't pick at her growing feathers or skin. You may have to keep her separate for a spell if they continue to bother her new feathers. But keep her in the same pen but separated by wire so she will mix right back in when the time comes.

I had a similar problem. I had a rooster in with 3 hens and at 8weeks old he became very aggressive overnight. He attacked one of the hens bitting her on the front of her neck, blood was all over the cage.I removed him cleaned the hen off and applied neoporin to the wound. I put her back in with the other hens and she survived. The rooster I ate. I would not put him back with so few hens he may kill the next one.
