My peeping egg from last night.....stopped. Ah well. I have that whole bator transferred over to the hatcher now for lockdown and temps are good in the hatcher.

Good news. My girlfriend has a sportsman and I set 30 eggs over there. There are 2 left and one is peeping so we hope he makes it out.

And here are the OTHER 6 of mine that hatched over there TODAY. They are Welsummers:

They say the girls have v's on top and eyeliner and the boys have NO eyeliner and a spot instead of a v. And they are all supposed to have the chipmunk stripes down the back.

So any guesses as to who is who??

YAYYY!

Got another chick found in the hatcher today AND I know which farm he came from. Still hoping that the two eggs from BantamHen66 that are left will pip, but time will tell. Those were the REALLY DARK Welsummer eggs. There are also 2 eggs over at my girlfriends from TN that at least one should hatch today!

So far out of 14 eggs from Amanda in AL I have 2 chicks and should have 5-6 chicks out of the 22 that Michael's in TN sent me. All welsummers, even though I did get a blonde one and I know where it came from. Expecting at least 8 chicks total from the 2 shipments of hatching eggs.

It is GOOD for a NEWBIE to see a variety of chicks to LEARN what is good and what isn't. I have confidence that both breeders are working with their stock to improve it. I am happy that these eggs were from breeder stock and not hatchery stock!!

Unfortunately one of the better looking girls has that leg out to the side hop along thing going on. Don't know that is a 'mushy chick' or it hatched in the Sportsman in the egg tray one level up from the bottom and got injured on the way down. She was born Sunday night and I'm getting the vet tape and trying to work with those legs today. I know from parrot raising that you have to catch a splay leg within 3 days or they grow so fast it is too late!

I did see a 'fixed chick' here on BYC, so I'm going to go try that post.

Any advice on getting these foam still air bators to hatch better? Doing dry incubation next round and they ARE in an egg turner and I noticed on the larger eggs not to put them right under the electrical supply down the center because the eggs got hung up on it and didn't turn, so the smaller eggs go there. Set those eggs Sunday Night, May 1st, so I think my next lockdown will be May 18th?

Cheers!

mine is still only pipped and I'm getting kind of nervous. I can hear chirping from inside the incubator and if I bring a Silkie chick or a duckling to the incubator the little guy(s) go crazy. Should I be worried?
