My son picked up a Silkie at the Alameda County fair this summer. He was told it was a pullet about 6 weeks old, the same age as out other 7 girls. When she laid an egg two weeks later we figured out she was clearly older. When she never grew, we figured out she was a bantam.

She is a passive little sweetie but she stayed out of the way of the others as they got older. and much larger than her. Then last week they went after her and pulled out a lot of her wing and neck feathers, roughing her up real good. We have been keeping her inside at night then letting her in the garden near the coop during the day. Each attempt to reintroduce her to the coop has been unsuccessful.

We would love to find her a good home in a less aggressive coop. Or she would be a great mom to someone getting chicks soon.

We are in Livermore, Ca in the East San Francisco Bay Area.

    Thanks
    Dave

Dave! I would love to take her! A drive to Livermore would not be too difficult for me some time this week, or this weekend if that would be okay with you.

I have a very mixed flock with only one silkie in it, and he's a rooster. I so have a house chicken, too, another picked on bird: a WC black Polish rooster. Yes, I have diapers...

My flock has a LOT of little bantam breed hens ... Even a Silver Sebright. She's nearly three years old.

Let me know; you may find a more suitable (to you) person to take her. If so, good. If not, yay for me! And your little silkie.

She is yours. I promised my kids I would find her a good, safe home and you sound perfect.

I am brand new to this forum. Is there a PM feature that I can send you my contact info?

    Thanks

    Dave

    Edit, PM sent...

Karn, I have the silkie now. She's not available any longer.

I see you are a new BYC member - Welcome! I'm sorry the response to your first post is disappointing.

May I suggest you edit your post to remove your email address and telephone number? It is best to keep personal information in private messages, not post them in forum threads. Anybody on the Internet can see it. Be safe!

I hope you find BYC forums useful, and I'm sure you will be able to locate someone else with bantam silkies somewhere her on BYC. :)
