They made it through our winter last year. Had one of the coldest winters in South Georgia in years. Got down in the low teen for a few days and they are still here. I would say they should be alright.... Quote:
Quote:They are med to lg chickens. I would rather someone that has these type of chickens answer this question. I live in Southeast Georgia where it only gets in the low teens at worst. I know that there are people on this site that have this breed that live in the northern states and if I had to guess I would say they would be just fine. But, I do not know for sure. Maybe some one else can help us out.
Quote:I am selling because I have way too many Roosters. I have sold all my Araucana Hens except for the Black and Gray ones. I am only going to breed Black and Gray for right now. So, I have to get rid of all the other colors. Help me out, OK!!!!
Just chimin' in to help out - - - Araucanas are very heat and cold hardy, extremely good foragers, generally very friendly and intelligent, and even if you don't have Araucana hens yourself, a rooster will make an excellent father to some great Easter Eggers and Olive Eggers. He'll also be a wonderful flock protector and lawn ornament. Araucanas' lack of tail has proven plenty in the past, at least for me, to be much better predator escapees. Also, if you want some good dual purpose in your flock, this guy will help. They're not a huge breed but they grow fast and have quite a bit of meat on their bones for their size. They're very hardy, and purebred hens are extremely good layers and also occasionally to frequently broody.
Quote:Thanks for the Help!!! One of My hens went broody with the first eggs she started laying. Let her hatch out some just to see how it would work-out. She set on them till they hatched with no problems.
