Where did you get him/her? If from a feed store it's likely and Easter Egger. Hatcheries do not have true Araucanas.

Yes, it is our local feed store… I was thinking maybe Americauna because we bought some last year that looked very similar… I really don't care what they are I am hoping they are pullets though!

"Americanas" is a made up name that hatcheries use to try to trick chick buyers into think they are getting a pure bred chicken. They are Easter a Eggers.

There is a hatchery that sells purebred Araucanas. I don't remember the name right off the top of my head.....

Meyer hatchery sells sexed blue Ameraucana pullet chicks for $20 each.

Cackle just introduced black Ameraucana straight run for $10 each.

I don't think most feed stores are ordering those.......if you buy your chick from a feed store, it's an Easter Egger. It should still lay colored eggs, it's just not a standardized color or guaranteed to lay blue eggs. Not a thing wrong with Easter eggers, they're a staple in lots of backyard flocks. Mine included [IMG]

I love EE's. They all look different and their eggs are all different, too.
