I mean, do you need a permitt for them since they're a wild veriety? I think they're so much prettier than the A&M, cortrunix (sp?) etc. I was just thinking of haveing 1 rabbit hutch like set up for quail. DH loves pickled eggs and I thought the pickled quail eggs would be very cute in a relish dish for holidays you know.
Maybe have 3 girls to 1 boy or something to that sort.

    It
is a lot better to ask the authorities in Co. then to go by what some one says on the internet looking at the regs they have listed it looks like up to 25 is private possession and more then 25 is going to fall under a game bird farm license I always check with my local game warden / conservation police officer and ask for a ruling . that covers me in case I have a problem

Yeah you should look up your states regulation regarding this birds, in California for example since there native birds you must have a permit to have them and a different permit to sell them and the people you sell them to they mist have a permit too.

I was told by a breeder in San Diego that there are no permits needed to buy or sell "pet" gamebirds in Ca.
    I believe him.

Quote:I don't have the link but it's the game and fish department website, it says that for game birds native to California you do need to have a permit and as far as quails go those include the valley, the gamble and the mountain quail, the permit is not that expensive it's like 8 dollars, but if you sell this birds and sell more than 75 you need a more expensive permit. But if you have coturnix or bobwhites or buttons a permit it's not needed. I'm gonna look for the link to post it here later. I'm using my phone so I can't do much.

Well, as far as I know (been a california resident for 27 years on and off) quail is our state bird and there for protected. You can get a serious fine if you run one over. I don't know any thing else though... sorry I couldn't be much more help.

Call up your local wildlife commission office. It's better to ask the people who would be fining or arresting you than random people on the internet.
