I purchased 5- 6 month old Delaware pullets about 4 weeks ago. They had never been handled, just thrown in a small coop with 15 others and thrown food.

These girls have started running up to see what I have and will even eat out of the dish I'm holding. They will lay their eggs with me in the coop. Is this breed always this friendly? I had heard they were stand-offish.

No breed is 100% friendly or unfriendly no matter what breed reviews claim. Different family lines in the same breed show that variation. I don't hear good things about most Delawares temperament wise but have no experience with them firsthand. But I do have experience with commercial layer hens that have never been handled, and intensively reared/bred/kept animals can just plain lack fear. It hasn't occurred to them to be afraid of people or try to avoid them. That may be what's going on here.

Best wishes.
