ok here goes... I really don't even know how to ask this but to just come right out and say it. My chickens and roosters are 5months old, the roosters have just started learning to crow and my hens laying very nice large eggs, recently the roosters are trying to mount the hens. I guess what i'm trying to ask is how long does the rooster have to stay on the hen to fertilize her so that the eggs can hatch? so far 10 or 15 sec seems to be as long as it lasts. Reminds me of alot of men lol. but seriously how do you know? I would hate to not gather my eggs and then them not hatch either. Any help out there for this question.

It's very quick. How to tell is by cracking open an egg and looking for that white bulls eye on the yolk. There's a sticky about that somewhere on here with pics. After one mating the hen's eggs will all be fertile for up to three weeks.
