Hi! this is my first tim on BYC. So please forgive me if i don't know what i am doing. These are my silkie chickens. They are both about 8 months old. I have no idea if they are male or female, please help. Thank you.

p.s. There are eggs and only one of the sit on them but the other one that doesn't sit on the eggs has been seen laying an egg.

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! You might like to post in the What Breed/Gender thread, good clear pictures of the birds, especially head shots showing combs will help https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/15/what-breed-or-gender-is-this and the silkies sexing thread https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/579215/silkie-sexing
If one of them is sitting on the eggs almost all of the time (day and night) she is probably broody and trying to hatch chicks, even if you never saw her lay an egg, some silkies do not lay very many eggs at all, roosters will not go broody. So it does sound like you have two girls.

Welcome to BYC! Please make yourself at home and we are here to help.

Kelsie X2 head shots will help. Silkies are one of the hardest breeds to sex. Be sure to check out the breed and gender link provided by Kelsie.

I would agree, you have females.

Glad you joined!

Thank you so much! So if they are both females does that man there will be no chicks? Sorry You can tell I am new to this;)

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I don't see anything screaming male, however young Silkies can be notoriously difficult to sex, so I would definitely advise posting full body close-ups on our What Breed or Gender is This? section. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Silkies.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

I would say if they are 8 months old and there is no crowing, than they are both female. If you have no rooster, the eggs are not fertile, so no chicks.

Very cute!!! Stop by our Silkies thread too to chat with other Silkie owners....https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/297632/silkie-thread

Enjoy these cutie pies and welcome to our flock!

Thank you all so much! this is so helpful! I will post more pictures of their heads soon, i have to go take more pictures.:thumbsup
