Just wondering because my one hen Blackie made a weird growling-churring sound when I went to gather eggs from under her. She does get off the nest when she's done laying after a little while. Blackie has also been making "secret nests" and I lost seven good eggs because she just had to have a different nest. Advice wanted! [IMG]

It doesn't sound like she's broody. Most hens will spend awhile on the nest when laying their eggs, both before and after laying them, and are very cranky if you disturb them.
