these are suposed to be week old speckled sussex chicks, can anyone tell me if they are?
They don't look like Speckled Sussex to me. Speckled Sussex chicks are darker, with more prominent stripes.
I think I got scammed. Any idea as to.what they are?
So I think I worked it out. I found the original breeder that sold.the eggs to the person I bought the eggs from they are rir/buff orpington cross.
If that's what they are, the rir/bo cross, they're nice looking birds from what I've seen here. It seems to be a pretty popular mix and you get nice sized orange-ish birds.
I agree they're not right for SS chicks.
They don't look like my SS chickens looked like as chicks. These were what mine looked liked:
the wing feathers look like yours just the brown is a bit lighter. the beaks are the same color so are the feet. hell i dont know. maybe they are sussex mix. the person i got them from swears they are pure.
Your chicks have yellow legs, I thought Sussex had white legs from the start.
These are classic Speckled Sussex chicks...yours are not obviously. RIR/BO ought to be good layers though not Speckled Sussex that you bought.
