Looking for a way to determine when a hen is done laying. I have heard that you can examine the vent. Does any one have any info on this? Or should i just replace after a certain amount of time? Some of my birds are over 2 years old.

I have a 4 year old hen, I never know when she'll start or stop. She just started yesterday. Sometimes they don't have as much signs that they need to lay than the younger or beginner hens. [IMG]

I'm not sure how you tell from the vent. They should keep laying at two years old. I have a five year old Quail Bantam hen that raised two batches of chicks in one year.

Generally chickens stop laying at about three or four.

    Best of luck!
