So three years ago, I bought 6 (now down to 3) "Black Jersey Giants" chicks from Tractor Supply. I showed them at the fairs this year and was told that one of them seemed to have more Australorp characteristics than BJG. So now I'm really curious, the guy also said that TSC could have been putting in to many requests so the hatchery could've gotten overwhelmed and just threw in black chicks. I'm also curious to know what hatchery supply's Tractor Supply with chicks. (The guy from the fair also said one of the hens has scaly mites?)

Check the bottoms of their feet. If the bottoms of their feet are an obvious yellow, then you have Black Jersey Giants. If the bottoms of their feet are any color other than yellow (grayish, whitish, pinkish), then you have Black Australorps.

I would also love to know where Tractor Supply gets their chicks.
I'm with the other post about checking the bottom of their feet.
I had a roo one time with the worse case of scaley leg mites I'd ever seen. Someone gave him to me that way and he was in my first batch of chickens. For me it helped to soak his feet and then scrub with a tooth brush. I believe I soaked 2-3 different times. Most of the build up finally came off. After each soak I covered his feet in vaseline. I've heard of a lot of different things to apply. I believe you basically have to smother the mites so they die.

You're welcome. I don't think there's a single hatchery from which Tractor Supply Company gets their chicks. I'm pretty sure it depends on the location of the Tractor Supply; they usually order from the major hatchery that is closest to them. For example the Tractor Supplies in Montana typically order their chicks from Dunlap Hatchery in Caldwell, Idaho, the Tractor Supplies in Texas typically order their chicks from Ideal Poultry in Cameron, Texas, ect.
