I have a 1yr 4m old Speckled Sussex hen, she’s had a limp for quite some time but it hasn’t affected her in anyway, she’s been getting around fine, roosting fine etc, though maybe sits around a little more than the other girls.
Last night she was tucked up in the corner of the coop making a noise I’ve never heard a chicken make, sounded like a distressed puppy whimpering. her limp looked a lot worse and she had a large swelling around her right knee.
I took her to a vet today who took X-Rays and blood sample (awaiting lab results still).
The X-rays showed arthritic changes to her knee. She has a few days of meloxicam to see how it makes her feel but likely not something we can keep her on long term.
Any suggestions for what I can give her to keep her comfy, something that is safe to keep her eggs in our eating rotation?
CBD? Adequan injection? Fish oils?
Is meloxicam safe to give her and we can still eat the eggs?
I have attached a picture of her X-ray of her poor knee
Thanks in advance for any ideas!
