Hi, I have two dozen Bresse Gauloise eggs due to hatch in three days time. I was told that commercial breeders prick the shell to lessen the risk of the chick suffocating or drowning after breeching the membrane before breaking through the eggshell. Can anyone confirm this for me please?

I've never heard this. I always say if they can't hatch on their own they weren't strong enough anyways.

Never heard that either. I cannot imagine a hatchery "pricking" a hundred thousand eggs.
