I had an outreach today with our zoo. Halfway through the event, we had a swap of staff. The incoming group brought a small carrier of what I thought was either a scorpion or tarantula. Umm....I was wrong. Here I am in this small space, boxed in with tables, and the ed specialist brings out MADAGASCAR HISSING COCKROACHES!! The other volunteers dash over to get some to hold, too. So these things are all around me, and I can't get away. I almost quit. Seriously. I've been with the zoo for 7 years, and can handle snakes, rats, the tarantula and scorpion, the alligator, but the roaches were just too much. I'm going to have nightmares.
