At what age will ducks start to lay?

And is it different for different breeds? I know this has been addressed before, but I read some of the posts and it seems as though there are differing opinions. Any answers are appriciated!

I have mallards. One of the hens has just begun to lay at 7 months. Her girlfriends haven't started to lay yet, or else I'm not finding their nests.
All of our eggs are still infertile, despite the best attempts of the drakes. I think they are still a bit too young to get the job done correctly. But give 'em 2 inches of water, and boy, do they try...
