I always let my chickens out in the morning and they go back inside the coup in the evening, then I lock the coup. When I got home from work the other day, they were all in the coup except for one. The one being a dom, named Dom. I looked for her and finally found her about dark. She was dead and appeared to have been so for a few hours. Something attacked her on the back and ate just the top half of the breasts. I could not locate any tracks around her and there was very little feathers scattered. There were a few feathers under a brush pile. It didnt appear she put up much of a struggle.

Dom was my buddy. She was a stress relief. I would get home from work and she would come running like a dog. Then I would round her up some worms or something.

I am wanting to avenge Dom's death and am trying to figure out what creature would have done this. I have several acres of wooded area behind my house, so it could have been anything. But, I think whatever it was killed her in the spot I found her and did so very quickly. Any suspects would be appreciated.

    Sounds like a hawk attack.

I would think a hawk also. Sorry for your loss.
