I am in a desperate situation.

I had a lease between me and another man. He claims he could not get into contact with me and has sold my horse which was FORBIDDEN in the contract. Now, the man who bought the horse KNEW about the contract yet still refuses to allow me to see my horse. Except if I come and pay $5,000.

I have tried to involve the sheriff but they will not get involved. I even filed a report, talked to the investigator, nothing. The best they can tell me is to get an attorney...so that is what I'm trying to do.

I have pretty much done all the work for whoever is willing. I can have a statement by the previous owner and breeder, have the written lease agreement, have registration papers and photos as well as the phone numbers for whoever you would like to get into contact with.

I am BEGGING someone to help me. I am at my wits end. I want to get my horse in a safe place before something happens to him and he winds up being sold and out of my hands. If someone feels as though they can help, I would like to hire you as my attorney on this.

The attorney that was SUPPOSED to be handling this will not return phone calls, keeps putting me off and will not meet when I try to set up a meeting.

Please PM me if you have any interest.

maybe you can get some free info here. or find an attorney. If it was me I would just go ahead and file small claims myself. Unless the horse is worth way more than small claims.

Edit: oops forgot the link.

I'm not giving a man $5,000 for my own horse. That would mean that I'm acknowledging that I sold the original man the horse which would mean even more legal battles.

You need a lawyer. Period. No one here is going to be able to help you, you are in a really bad situation, if you truly want your horse back, then get a lawyer.

That's what I'm trying to do Reinbeau, I was wanting to know if anyone could suggest a lawyer in my area. The ones I have called simply seem to not care about the situation. I was hoping that someone would be able to point me in a direction who has dealt with a lawyer before and would recommend one.

I would also recommend contacting the Attorney General of your State. They usually have a website and lots of info for the different divisions. I would speak to someone in the division/office/unit that most closely resembles the type of situation you have. It won't cost you anything and they can be very helpful. They can also provide information on attorneys that are proficient in cases like yours....sometimes for free. As I said, they have websites and usually toll-free numbers. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Excellent suggestion, to call the Attorney General's office. It might not hurt to contact a local newspaper or TV station, too, if there's one within a reasonable distance - this is an intriguing story with twists and turns, may draw attention to the problem.
