Hi everyone, I'm new here so please be patient with me. I have had Australian Spotted ducks since 2011 and over the years I have had losses to predators reducing my flock down to just 1 male and 3 non related females.

I let them hatch out ducklings this year and I seriously want to find other small time breeders/owners on BYC to swap with. All of my juniors are either half or full siblings and I will need new blood before/by next spring. There are 9 greenheads and 1 bluehead. I plan to keep a few males and swap out the rest.

I really like my male line because it is clean/totally free of defects and at this point it is more important to me to keep my male line going than my female line or male/female ratio. My female line is good color, marking and type wise. A lot of Aussies I've seen from out of state are larger than I'd like and have odd shaped heads but I'm willing to add in whatever is available to avoid inbreeding.

I have tried local classifieds and practically no one has them, not even in neighboring states (I'm in Oregon). I don't want to deal with shipping eggs/ducks if possible. I am considering buying from duck creek farm but that is an expensive option.

Just curious if anyone here on BYC would like to work something out. I don't have pictures of my ducks but I can take pictures.

I am quite familiar with their standard and know my ducks are good quality. In the past I have shown the parents of my current ducks and they all won 1st place and BOB. If someone questions my judgement or insults my flock I consider that rude and offensive. This breed is way too rare to afford to nit-pick over insignificant things. I just love my Aussie Spots and want to help preserve them for future generations.

Anyways, thanks in advance and looking forward to your input.

Hello! I have a sweet pair of Australian Spotteds, a male and a female. They are 7 months old. I think she will probably start laying eggs soon, now that the days are longer!
I can't verify their bloodline or anything, because the man that I purchased them from isn't always selling, and they were bought to be pets, not for shows or anything. Here are some pics! As you can tell, they're tiny. In the second pic, there's a ping pong ball, so you can tell their size by looking at that!

Very nice. They look to be a greenhead pair!

I've been wondering about that! Downey (the male) definitely has a green patch on his head, but has a lot of brown coming in on his cheeks. His colored flight feather patches are dark blue/purple.
Hemmie (female) had some deep brown feathers during the autumn, and her colored patches are more blue and teal.
I bet you're right! Thanks for helping me figure this out!!!
