Australorp or Sumatra....please, please be Australorp!!

Okay, does anyone have any knowledge here on the differences between the two? Is it true that Sumatra have black skin and black bones, even? If so, I'm in the clear because mine has white/pinkish skin.

The reason I'm so dire about it, is the difference in egg laying. Sumatras are poor layers; 1/week

Sumatras have much more slender bodies as well. Also, they should have multiple spurs rather than a single one on each foot. While they SHOULD have black skin, that is not always the case. however, the comb and wattles should be a bit darker than an australorp's.

A sumatra of good breeding will have black or mulberry features.

I've got an Australorp. Checked for spur markings (none), and she fits the pictures of Australorps more than Sumatras. Thanks for the info...gets confusing when you're new. But it was important to me for the egg-laying number; plus I'm getting another Australorp from the same guy this week. Didn't want to end up with two, poor-laying Sumatras!

Also sumatras have a walnut comb while aussies have single combs.

And look at the bottom of her feet. If it is an aussie she will have pink bottoms, while sumatras have yellow.

I have both so I can compare the 2 side by side.
