Yep, looks like we (in the UK) are heading for a flockdown again. Just got the email for England:

An Avian Influenza Prevention Zone has come into force across Great Britain as of 5pm on 3 November 2021. This means it is a legal requirement for all bird keepers to follow strict biosecurity measures to protect their birds from avian influenza. For more information see GOV.UK: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/avian-influenza-bird-flu#AIPZ, GOV.SCOT: https://www.gov.scot/publications/avian-influenza-outbreaks/ and GOV.WALES: https://gov.wales/avian-influenza-bird-flu-latest-update

Doesn't seem to be an actual flockdown yet... Just up the biosecurity and net off all areas the hens use.
Better prep all those boredom busters for the ladies!

Wow, I hope the Flockdown doesn’t have to happen! Enough is enough already!

Latest situation

Update 24 November 2021:

The Chief Veterinary Officers for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have agreed to bring in new measures to help protect poultry and captive birds. The new housing measures will come into force across the UK from 00:01 on Monday 29 November 2021 to protect poultry and captive birds from avian influenza following a number of confirmed cases across Great Britain in recent weeks.

This must be heartbreaking and terribly boring for the poor birds. I would assume y'all will have more chicken fights break out due to boredom. We have hung cabbage from a rope in the cage in the past, which seems to keep our chickens entertained until the cabbage is gone. I guess you could hang other veggies and start growing herbs and such for them to root thru, replace once they have gone thru each. Hopefully others will have additional ideas to keep your chickens entertained and your chickens stay well and happy. :hugs
