I have a Japanese quail hen that has gone broody but she is inexperienced. She has the eggs all under her and she has been sitting for two days. Anyone else who has a hen like that? She is still in the box i took the male away because when i went this morning to feed them she went crazy and attacking him so i put him in another inclosure for now aswell as the other female because she kept getting in the nest with her and pushing her away from the nest so i took her away with the male so now she is comfortably sitting on her eggs she has about 10 two 12 eggs under her some are hers and from the other female a male jumbo,a female italian, tibetan. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0190.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0191.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0192.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0193.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0194.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0195.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0196.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0197.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0198.jpg https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/uploads/57622_imag0199.jpg she has dry grass all over her cage she alsao has a sand box and nest she is pretty tame as quail get she is not afraid of me but does not like to be handled she is my favorite quail. oh and if any one has any advice it is much appreciated.

Must be that time of year.

I have a Jumbo Brown, my bigest one, that keeps trying to brood. I suppose I should let her and get her set up alone before she kills another hen. So far she is Ok with me taking all 5 eggs out from under her. She takes over the sand box and lets the others lay their eggs there then tucks them under her.

Look at Wifezilla's broody hen thread for ideas and information. Her girl hatched some babies and is raising them.

Cotties often go broody. The problem is that it has mostly been bred out of them. They tend not to "stick with it" the whole 18 days. I would see how far she is willing to take it. If you lose a few eggs, its not really a big deal.

i have a broody Coturnix on 5 eggs at day 12/13. She's been ever so good so far. She only gets off to eat and dust bath and toilet, and gets straight back on! I think she is going to make the distance!
