Once it's not a risk of being pecked and opening back up. Chicks will peck at anything, particularly if it's red, so caution when reintroducing, you don't want it to get reinjured, maybe worse. As it heals the feathers may cover it making it less noticable, but you will need to watch, make sure it doesn't draw attention.
