Baby Chick Gender

Good day all…

I have 8 baby chicks which are 4 weeks old. This is my first time having chicks hatch in my care. They are mixed leghorn and Ernie the dad is a Polish Black Crested rooster. One is a cross beck so I won’t be bartering or giving him or her away. I have 2 Roos already and not trying to push my luck here with all the chickens I have. I’m not set up to raise them then slaughter them so I will barter or give them away. Not in position to sell them either.

They are 4 weeks old. I can’t tell their gender per say but i got a pretty good ideas that they aren’t all hens but Roos. I see their cones developing and i see a couple whose cones are a little more red then the others. I also see some roo challenging each other chest bumping kind of — a clear indication they are Roos so just so I can put the shape of the egg telling gender to rest — it doesn’t work I put all round bottom eggs in the incubator. And this is what I got! I have numbered them…

Chick 2 is a cockerel, but 4 weeks is a little early to say for certain on the rest. They have some odd combs.

Their little cresty parts are SO cute. Those make me think of Mad Max characters.
