Baby chick lost a nail

Yesterday my 3 week old chick managed to rip a nail off outside somehow. I cleaned up the wound and stopped the bleeding. The end of the toe had gone black. I got the rest of the nails clipped at the pet shop and the guy there said the nail probably won't grow back. Is this likely the case? I really hope it's not.

Some of my chickens lost nails, and they're doing fine. But it won't grow back.

Just looked today and it seems it has started to grow back!
