I haven't posted in a long time.

I just got baby chicks almost 2 weeks ago. I woke up this morning to one of them with a prolapse. I have done some research. This is what I have done so far: Cleaned and soaked in warm water, tried a bit of witch hazel, used Prep H, sprayed with Vetericyn. I have pushed it back in numerous times. Nothing seems to help. I separated her from the rest and she won't lay down to sleep. She just stands and almost falls over then wakes up. She will sleep if I hold her in a towel, but then she gets antsy. NOTHING has worked so far.

Any suggestions???

Can you post some photos?
Is she having trouble pooping?

Give her bottom a soak in a warm epsom salts bath, dry well, then apply an anti-inflammatory cream.
Keep any exposed tissue moist with your cream and let the swelling go down a little before you try to push it back in.

Constipation can cause a prolapse in chicks, make sure she is drinking very well, you can give her 1/2tsp of mineral oil or coconut oil 1time to help get her pooping. Wet chick starter may also help and provide her with chick grit free choice.

Thank you! I posted a picture as well. I will do the epsom salt bath this morning. She has been pooping, but when she does, she is pushing the prolapse out further. I feel so bad for her. I have her separated and she just chirps all day, I think she is lonely. I hold her as much as I can, but can't do it all day. Poor baby :(

Well I just checked her and did the epsom salt soak and it looks worse today and there is a bit of blood:(

Poor thing. Are you putting anything on the prolapse to keep it moist? Anti-inflammatory cream may help better than the Prep H. Witch Hazel, even though it is good for certain applications can be drying.
What temperature are you keeping her? Does she act like she is too hot?

Give her wet feed, make a mash out of her chick starter and she needs to be drinking well.
I'm sure she is lonely. Depending on your brooder set up, can you make a barrier out of wire so she can be on 1 side and see the others. Sometimes that helps. You can also give her an unbreakable mirror so she can see herself and a stuffed animal to snuggle with.

I'm sorry that she is not healing. Give her time, but do be aware that occasionally a prolapse just cannot be fixed and the chick starts to fail to thrive.

Thank you so much for your help!! I will try the anti-inflammatory cream. I am keeping it moist. I have her in the house with a heat lamp so she can warm up if she wants to. I am going to ask hubby to help me make an area in the brooder with everyone else for company. Again thanks!

I hope she gets better soon!
If you don't mind, if you do make a barrier in your brooder, post some photos:)
