Hello! With my last two hatches of Button quail ive had a baby with a weird leg problem ive never seen before. Its like their hip on one leg is out of socket, but moves around fine and dosnt cause them any pain. Sadly, the first chick with this issue passed and i dont want my second chick to have the same fate. Its not straddle leg either, and ive looked into slipped tendons but the chick is so tiny i cant tell. Any help on what to do? Ive tried bandaging it into place to let it heal but nothing can keep his leg in place. Im lost.

Do you have pics to confirm it's a slipped tendon? Could it be splayed legs?- in which case a different brace would be used.

I had a chick with a slipped tendon.
The chick couldn't walk at all.
I used horse bandage which is non adhesive but sticks to itself to brace the backwards leg. It was difficult getting on properly being such a tiny little thing but I got it on after a couple of tries.
A couple of days with it on and she was all good!!
Now she's a healthy pullet..

I do have some pictures. Ive tried bandaging it like that as well, but it never holds it in place properly because he still kicks his whole upper thigh/hip out, it looks like its out of socket when he does it.

Oh no D: is there any chance he could survive with it? I can try taking him in to a vet but id think hes way too little for surgery, even full grown he'd only be the size of a chicken chick.
Sorry but it sounds like unless you want to pay for surgery to give your little quail a slight chance of survival it's probably best to cull to put it out of any further suffering.
